Molly Reekie is a Multi-Channel Marketing Apprentice working as a Marketing Assistant at Apex Radio Systems. Through her apprenticeship, Molly has gained hands-on experience across a wide range of marketing activities while developing the skills and confidence needed to build a successful career in the industry.

Finding a Creative Career Path
When Molly Reekie joined Apex Radio Systems as a Marketing Assistant, she was taking her first confident step into a creative career she had long been curious about. After gaining some limited experience creating social media posts in a previous role, Molly realised marketing was the direction she wanted to pursue. Rather than choosing the traditional university route, she opted for a Multi-Channel Marketing apprenticeship, attracted by the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while learning on the job.
I loved the idea of gaining experience and learning through an apprenticeship, which is why I chose this over university.
Starting the Apprenticeship Journey
At the beginning of her apprenticeship, Molly had very little formal marketing experience. However, she quickly became immersed in the marketing function at Apex Radio Systems. Supported by her manager, the wider team, and her apprenticeship trainer, she began developing a strong understanding of marketing principles and practices, applying what she learned directly to real business activities.
Growing in Confidence and Responsibility
One of the most significant milestones in Molly’s journey came when her manager went on maternity leave. As part of a small two-person marketing team, the prospect of working mostly independently was initially daunting. Together, they created a clear plan to ensure continuity, and with ongoing support from colleagues across Apex and her apprenticeship trainer, Molly stepped confidently into greater responsibility.
“At the beginning I definitely needed my hand holding, but my confidence has grown massively, I now feel confident enough to run campaigns on my own.”
This period marked a turning point in Molly’s development, allowing her to apply her learning in real time and build trust in her own abilities.
Developing Skills That Matter
Throughout her apprenticeship, Molly has built a wide range of technical and creative skills. These include working with content management systems, writing blog content, creating LinkedIn posts, supporting email campaigns, planning and delivering events, and gaining exposure to Google Ads and SEO. Alongside these practical skills, Molly has also experienced significant personal growth.
From knowing nothing about marketing to now feeling confident in what I’m doing, the apprenticeship has 100% made a difference to my career.
Real-World Projects and Proud Moments
A standout experience for Molly was her involvement in Apex Radio Systems’ customer appreciation golf days. She played a key role in the research, planning, and delivery of two successful events, helping to strengthen relationships with customers and suppliers. The most recent event stands out as a proud achievement.
“Playing such a huge part in the planning and preparation, and seeing the day be a massive success, is something I will always be proud of.”
Life as a Marketing Apprentice
No two days look the same for Molly. Some days are spent preparing for events, while others involve creating content for blogs, email campaigns, or LinkedIn. There are also days dedicated to analysing data and performance, a variety she particularly enjoys.
“A day is never the same in marketing; no two days are ever alike.”
Support from the Team and Trainer
Support has been central to Molly’s success. Apex Radio Systems encourages growth at every level, giving Molly the freedom to work independently while remaining part of a close-knit team. Her apprenticeship trainer also played a key role by tailoring the training to align with Molly’s role and responsibilities.
“The trust from the Apex team and the support from my trainer helped me gain as many skills and as much knowledge as possible.”
Looking Ahead
As Molly’s apprenticeship journey draws to a close, she reflects on it with pride and gratitude. From starting with minimal experience to confidently contributing across multiple marketing channels, the apprenticeship has provided a strong foundation for her future career.
I’m so grateful for the skills I’ve gained during my apprenticeship, and I’m excited to see what happens in the future.
