Developing Confident, Capable Leaders at Academy Geomatics

Academy Geomatics, a leading provider of geospatial services, partnered with Zenith to strengthen their internal leadership capacity. With the business experiencing steady growth and evolving operational demands, the leadership team recognised a need to develop their management capability, modernise internal processes, and build a stronger people-first culture.

The goal was to equip current and emerging leaders with the tools and confidence to lead effectively, supporting both immediate performance and long-term business development.

As a trusted provider of high-impact, funded training, Zenith delivered a comprehensive Leadership and Management Bootcamp designed to meet these goals.

Solution

The bootcamp was structured into ten focused modules, each addressing a core area of leadership. From HR practices to personal effectiveness, change management to coaching, every session was grounded in practical application, allowing participants to reflect on current practices and implement improvements in real time.

Working closely with the team, we tailored the delivery to reflect Academy Geomatics’ working environment, day-to-day challenges, and team structure. Participants were encouraged to engage with the material, share experiences, and apply their learning between sessions.

Immediate Results & Meaningful Change

From the outset, the team demonstrated enthusiasm and a willingness to reflect. Throughout the programme, they identified and actioned several key improvements:

  • Refreshed People Processes: HR procedures were reviewed, with new approaches introduced to strengthen absence management, disciplinary processes, and return-to-work documentation.
  • Overhauled Appraisals: A major shift came in the approach to performance management, with the introduction of evidence-based appraisals, SMART objectives, and a structured use of PIPs and PDPs.
  • Improved Team Communication: Through exploration of emotional intelligence and unconscious bias, managers committed to more thoughtful, tailored communication and feedback strategies.
  • Motivation and Engagement: A new reward scheme was trialled, focusing on individual contributions to boost engagement and morale.
  • Prepared for Growth: With the business undergoing expansion, the team demonstrated increased confidence in navigating organisational change and planning for future growth.

Ongoing Development and Culture Change

Beyond the immediate outcomes, the bootcamp fostered a more reflective and proactive leadership mindset. Participants began coaching peers, streamlining project management practices, and taking a more inclusive approach to team leadership.

The focus on personal effectiveness also led to the identification of individual development areas, ensuring that learning was not only collective but tailored to each participant’s leadership journey.

The bootcamp has been very good and opened a new way of thinking. Management procedures are now being implemented across the organisation, but the particular focus on appraisals was priceless. A shout out to our trainer too, who has been magnificent in teaching us—they’ve shown a huge degree of patience and are a credit to Zenith.
