Driving Continuous Improvement and Collaboration: Lean Management Training at Pentland Brands LTD

Pentland Brands LTD, a global brand management business, is committed to developing its people and creating a culture where teams feel empowered to contribute to meaningful change. While its managers had strong technical expertise, there was a recognised opportunity to strengthen leadership skills around Lean Management principles, enabling leaders to look more critically at existing processes, drive efficiency and build greater collaboration across teams.

To address this, Pentland Brands LTD partnered with Zenith Training to deliver a bespoke Lean management programme, facilitated by Steven Welsh, our Client Relationship Manager, that focused on both the mindset and practical application of Lean tools in day-to-day operations.

The Approach

Rather than a purely theoretical course, the training was designed to be highly interactive, encouraging participants to reflect on their own processes and challenged. Sessions combined:

  • Practical Tools and Frameworks: Clear, actionable methods managers could apply immediately in their roles.
  • Collaborative Reflection: Opportunities for participants to share experiences, highlight inefficiencies, and co-create solutions.
  • Leadership Development: A focus on inclusive leadership, encouraging managers to involve their teams in decision-making.

The training gave managers the space to step back from the day-to-day, look at how things were working, and test new approaches in a safe and supportive work environment.

The Impact

Feedback from managers was overwhelmingly positive, with many noting how the training had encouraged them to think differently about their work. The impact has been felt both at an individual and team level:

  • Improved Process Awareness: Several managers reported that they had reassessed shop floor operations and identified areas where processes could be streamlined, cutting down wasted time and resources.
  • Enhanced Team Engagement: Leaders began holding more frequent, focused reviews with their teams. These meetings are no longer just about reporting progress, but about open conversations, where staff feel their ideas and contributions are valid.
  • Practical Application: Managers have embedded the tools into their daily routines, improving how they prioritise workloads, planning projects, and staying organised.
  • Empowered Leadership: A cultural shift has taken place, with managers adopting a more inclusive approach to decision-making. Small suggestions from team members are now recognised as valuable, sparking a sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Positive Learning Experience: Steven, the facilitator, was repeatedly praised for his approachable style, His ability to create an engaging and enjoyable learning environment made it easy for participants to connect with the material and see its relevance.
