Case Study: Zenith Training Apprenticeship Bootcamp – Port of Tyne

Port of Tyne partnered with Zenith Training to conduct a three-day apprenticeship bootcamp to prepare candidates for roles in engineering, administration, marine workboats, and multi-skilled operations. The training, which took place from July 15th to 17th, 2024, was led by trainer Val Barella. The goal was to ensure that candidates were well-prepared for apprenticeship interviews and subsequent employment.

Project Set-Up

The initial communication was highly effective, providing detailed guidance to Rachel Lightburn, Senior HR Manager, and her team. As this was a new initiative for many hiring managers at Port of Tyne, Zenith Training’s clear and structured approach was particularly appreciated. The preparatory phase included multiple touchpoints between Port of Tyne and Zenith Training, involving site visits and virtual meetings. This consistent communication reassured the Port of Tyne team that the recruitment process was well-managed, saving significant time and effort.

Training Delivery

The Port of Tyne team rated the training delivery as very satisfactory. They highly valued all aspects of the bootcamp, particularly the engagement and personal investment shown by the Zenith team. The presentation task was a standout component of the bootcamp. Candidates were required to present to hiring managers an experience that was both challenging and rewarding. The Port of Tyne team felt a sense of pride in the candidates’ achievements, reflecting the success of the training. The bootcamp effectively prepared candidates for their apprenticeship interviews, with no significant gaps in the training content.

Apprenticeship Selection

Zenith Training provided strong support in the apprenticeship selection process, ensuring a smooth transition from training to interviews. The process was seamless, with Zenith taking care of all logistical details, which was a major benefit to Port of Tyne.

Port of Tyne expressed a strong willingness to continue working with Zenith Training, citing the knowledgeable and supportive approach of the team as a key reason. They also indicated potential interest in other services offered by Zenith, such as upskilling current staff and various types of training. The apprenticeship boot camp conducted by Zenith Training was a significant success. It effectively prepared candidates for their roles and met Port of Tyne’s expectations.
