WHAT DOES THIS QUALIFICATION COVER?

This qualification aims to support learners in becoming first aiders in the workplace. The content of this qualification meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for training first aiders in organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level in order to reach their first aid assessment needs.  

This qualification covers various first aid skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).  

In line with guidance supported by the HSE, this qualification is valid for three years, after which point, learners will need to retake the course. It is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.

Unit 2: Recognition and Management of ilness and injury in the workplace

  • Able to conduct a secondary survey  
  • Able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles, and joints  
  • Able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
  • How to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries  
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds  
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury 
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with a sudden poisoning
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis
