WHAT DOES THIS Workshop COVER?

Our Mental Health for Managers training will be covered in one short
4.5 hour session where delegates will gain an understanding of what is
meant by mental health and mental ill health, looking at factors that can increase risk, both from influences inside and outside the workplace.

There is a focus on ways to support individuals with mental ill health, ensuring a person-centred approach, while considering relevant legislation, guidance,
and strategies. 

Topics included in the training:

  • Define what is meant by mental health and mental ill health.
  • Explain what is meant by the mental health continuum.
  • Describe factors that may increase the risk of mental ill health in individuals.
  • Describe factors that may increase the risk of mental ill health from inside the learning or work environment.
  • Describe factors that may increase the risk of mental ill health from outside the learning or work environment.
  • Explain how physical health can affect mental health.
  • Describe different types of mental ill health.
  • Explain the importance of positive relationships and effective communication when supporting individuals with mental ill health.
  • Describe the ways to support an individual with mental ill health with early intervention.
  • Describe the ways to support an individual with mental ill health with short-term support.
  • Describe the ways to support an individual with mental ill health with long-term report.
  • Describe the ways to support an individual with mental ill health in recovery.
  • Describe the ways to support an individual with mental ill health in their return to work.
  • Define a person-centred approach to mental health.
  • Describe the importance of a person-centred approach for mental health.
  • Explain the importance of recognising own responsibilities and limitations in relation to supporting the mental health of others.
  • Identify how to support people with mental ill health and when to refer them.
  • Explain the role of the qualified mental health first aider.
  • Identify relevant legislation and guidance in relation to mental health provision.
  • Describe policies and strategies to promote and support mental well-being.
